Virtual Crisis Counseling for Children & Teens

Writer's picture: Jessica Williamson, LCSWJessica Williamson, LCSW

Children and teens may feel greater feelings of agitation, fears, worries, anger and stress with the recent events in our community. Help your child with crisis counseling. Other ways to help your child include:

Help your child name their feelings so they can tame the feelings.

Drawing pictures or writing stories about what happened and their concerns.

Create a worry jar where worries can written down and stored, rather than keeping them inside their mind and body.

Teach relaxation breathing - have the child raise their hand or a toy slowly upward as they inhale for the count of 4, then slowly lower it and breath out the mouth for the count of 4.

As the parent/caregiver, get the support you need and model using healthy coping skills.
