Compulsive Pornography Use

Pornography use can become difficult to manage when it feels compulsive, conflicts with personal values, or begins affecting relationships, emotional health, school, work, or daily responsibilities. People may continue the behavior despite wanting to stop, often experiencing cycles of secrecy, shame, temporary relief, and renewed urges.

These concerns can affect people of every gender and age. Men and women may struggle privately for years, while adolescents may encounter pornography before they are emotionally prepared to understand it. Older adults may also face concerns related to loneliness, changing relationships, increased access to technology, or long-standing patterns that have become more disruptive.

At Inner Peace Counseling of Utah, our providers offer compassionate, confidential, and nonjudgmental counseling for adolescents and adults struggling with pornography use or other unwanted sexual behaviors. Therapy can help clients identify triggers, understand the emotional needs connected to the behavior, strengthen impulse-control skills, and develop healthier ways to manage stress, loneliness, anxiety, or difficult emotions.

One benefit of working with our practice is access to providers with experience across adolescent therapy, adult counseling, couples work, betrayal trauma, and trauma-focused treatment. This allows care to address more than the behavior alone. When appropriate, therapy may also explore anxiety, trauma, relationship disconnection, emotional regulation, or negative beliefs that may be contributing to the pattern. Some providers may incorporate approaches such as EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Internal Family Systems, cognitive behavioral therapies, and values-based interventions according to the client’s needs.

Our providers can also support partners and family members affected by secrecy, damaged trust, or betrayal trauma. Individual and couples counseling may help improve communication, establish appropriate boundaries, and support informed decisions about relationship healing.

Seeking help is not about being shamed or punished. It is an opportunity to understand the behavior, regain a sense of choice, and build a healthier relationship with yourself and others.

Inner Peace Counseling of Utah offers counseling in Draper and Saratoga Springs, with telehealth appointments available throughout Utah.
