Children

Children do not always have the words to explain what they are feeling. Anxiety, grief, trauma, family changes, friendship difficulties, school stress, behavioral concerns, and emotional overwhelm may instead appear as irritability, withdrawal, sleep problems, physical complaints, tantrums, or changes in school performance.

At Inner Peace Counseling of Utah, our child providers create a safe, supportive environment where children can communicate in ways that feel natural and developmentally appropriate. Treatment is individualized according to each child’s age, needs, strengths, and personality.

Our providers may incorporate play therapy, which allows children to express emotions, practice problem-solving, and make sense of experiences through play. Art-based activities can help children communicate feelings that may be difficult to describe verbally, while sand tray therapy provides a creative way to explore relationships, worries, memories, and a child’s inner world.

For children affected by frightening or distressing experiences, appropriately trained providers may also use trauma-focused approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) or Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). These methods are adapted to the child’s developmental level and may help reduce the emotional intensity of troubling memories, fears, or negative beliefs.

Therapy may help children:

  • Recognize and express emotions

  • Manage anxiety, anger, and frustration

  • Strengthen confidence and coping skills

  • Process grief, trauma, or major life changes

  • Improve communication and relationships

  • Develop healthier responses at home and school

Parents and caregivers are important partners in the therapeutic process. Our providers may offer parent consultations, practical strategies, and guidance for supporting progress outside of sessions while also protecting the child’s therapeutic privacy.

Inner Peace Counseling of Utah offers compassionate child and family counseling at our Draper and Saratoga Springs locations. Our providers work collaboratively with families to help children feel understood, build emotional skills, and move toward greater security and well-being.
